For the Raigam Tele awards the name of Shalani Tharuka was also nominated. But she was not elected. When she was questioned by a popular weekend newspaper during a cordial discussion as to why she has not been elected as the best actress or the most popular actress when her contemporary sister actresses walk away with these awards each year.

The answer given by Shalani Tharuka was that she has no dream to become the most popular actresses as the award is decided on the number of SMS’s sent and received in respect of any actress. To become the most popular actress she needs to send ‘SMS’s to herself. She is a person who would not like to get on stage and receive the award for the best actress in that manner.

She had quipped that the admiration of the fans she receives when she goes on the roads and to other places is her people’s award.In order to become the best actress she had said she is still a novice.

However before she quits the small screen she would become the best actress or at least me among the nominees. In that regard the award is not a requirement for her she had finally quipped
