STORY OF HAVING GIVEN NOMINATIONS TO MAHINDA ....

STILL IN SUSPENSE!

A big commotion took place in the political field when it was announced that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa
was given nominations from the UPFA recently.

While a certain section of the public said that the President Maithripala had resorted to a betrayal, the other section said that he had taken action to avert a polarization of the Party by thinking on that angle. However it was later reported that this statement was brought about with the serious effort exerted by the General Secretary Susil Premajayanth and the judgement given by President Maithri in this connection is a controversial one as confirmed by various reports. Though it was said that nominations would be given and it has still not been carried out, various ideas have been expressed about the actual story which is in suspense. What is opined by one view is that after spreading stories about nominations being given to Mahinda, this decision is liable to be changed on the basis of political criticism being taken into consideration within and without the Party in that respect. In the same way, a Maithri -- Mahinda confrontation has still not taken place after this decision. Such a confrontation is considered as deemed essential in the face of a preparation of a General Election.

The public rally in the series of 'Mahinda samaga negitimu' series of rallies which was scheduled to be held on next 9th at Anuradhapura has been postponed without a stipulated date, Sri Lanka Freedom Party Anuradhapura District Leader Mr. S.M. Chandrasena has remarked. The reason for this, he had said was that Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa wishes to get on stage with Mr. Maithripala Sirisena and that it has still not been possible to be carried out.

In the meantime, what another piece of news reported said was that though Mahinda is given nominations only, there is no clear agreement between the two of them in relation to those conditions. It has been said by the President at a function held yesterday on behalf of the birthday of Mrs. Bandaranaika where Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thero, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasingha and former President Chandrika Bandaranaika were present, that nominations would not be given to Mahinda or any person who had been involved in corruption. The former President Chandrika still says that Mahinda would not be getting nominations.

Minister Mangala Samaraweera speaking at a meeting held in Matara had spoken about the statement made by the President Maithri recently. What he said was that no chance would be provided for the people's vote given on the 8th to be turned back once again and that there is no chance for family domination and that after saying so a certain matter was told to him and the group as well and that it cannot be revealed now. That unsaid matter implies a hint as being a strategy used by Maithri to 'make Mahinda remain as a member of parliament' only. Though the Mahinda faction and supporters are preparing to come forward at the elections on the permission granted by the President by now, it came to be known that separate lists have been prepared with the anticipation of an alternate incident.

In the meantime, Rajitha, Aruna, M.K.D.S., Nandimithra and Dumminda Dissanayaka have approached the former President Chandrika in her home and discussed a solution of the type of extending support they should make to the UNP in the future. It was also learned that they are prepared to contest under the symbol of Swan separately. In the process S.B. Nawinna has already crossed over to the UNP from the SLFP showing his opposition against the decision of the President and in the future Arundika, Shantha Bandara, Shehan Semasingha are prepared to contest from the UNP, it was reported. Opinions have been expressed by several in the UNP that this number could exceed 20.
