Mother and two sons and relative-boy ....

on their way to invite relations for son's second birthday ....

 meet with death!

A three-wheeler which tried to avoid a puddle on the middle of the road in Induruwa Area day-before-yesterday evening crashed head on into an intercity bus and was run over. In this instance a woman, her two children who had been travelling in it and a child of the driver too died as a result.

The one year and eleven months old child who passed away as a result of this accident was to celebrate his birthday next month. The mother of the child was on her way with this child and his elder brother aged 9 years in this three-wheeler to invite another party while the person who drove the vehicle in fact was a relative of the woman. He had also escorted his two and a half year old son on this journey.

There had been a puddle of mud water in this road which provided difficulty for people to travel on this road for a period of time and the driver had been avoiding them on and off when all of a sudden a bus which was coming from the opposite direction collided head on with the three-wheeler.

J.P.Shiromi Damayanthi (27), her youngest son Venuja Devsara Thillakaratna (1 year and 11 months) and the son of the driver of the three-wheeler, Kavindu Nethvida Ranasingha (2 years and 8 months) all died at the place of the accident while the deceased mother's 9 year old eldest son, Kalana Akasha was admitted to Nagoda Hospital with serious injuries and later transferred to Colombo where he too breathed his last. It was within a hair's breadth that the life of the driver was saved.

The bus driver was taken into custody over this accident. All those who died are residents of Ahungalla. A crowd of people staged a protest by burning tyres on the night of the accident saying that however much the authorities were sounded on this accident-prone location they had not given ear to this warning. As the protestors complained that no provisions had been taken to see that the rain water accumulated at that spot be drained away, it was reported however that the relevant provincial council had taken measures yesterday in that connection.
