All landslide and flood affected areas declared as high security zones, filling of lands in Colombo prohibited
During the recent the Aranayake and Bulathkohupitiya areas were affected by land slides and a number of areas around the Kelani river were affected by the flood waters of the Kelani river. All these areas have been declared a high security zones.This decision was taken a t a meeting held at the presidential secretariat presided by the President ,the Prime Minister, the subject related Minister of the Disaster Management centre,heads of the three forces and all divisional secretaries of
these areas which were affected.In addition it was also decided not to allow any filling of lands in the Colombo district.This important decision making meeting was held on the 23rd instant.During this meeting it was decided to offer instant relief to all affected owners of residencies by donating an initial payment of rupees ten thousand rupees (Rs 10,000/).It had been discussed how the normal life to be restored for them and the school going children to commence education by offering the maximum redress etc.
The officials of the national building research department were instructed to gauge the conditions of the houses partly affected by floods and to ascertain the amount of repairs and the suitability for the settlement of the displaced persons.A special programme is to be initiated on a large scale.
The government is laying emphasis on the settling of the homeless and for them to commence a new life for which all necessary assistance the government would lend.
