Water level in Kelani River up to 7 meters
By afternoon today the level of Kelani River has risen to a very high level and the Irrigation Department has announced that it has assumed proportions of a major flood. The water level of Nagalagam Street has by now risen to a height of over 7 meters, they say. Mr. J. K. Padmakeerthi the Irrigation Engineer in charge of the Colombo Zone has stated that this is a major flood situation and that immediate action is necessary under these circumstances. The Irrigation Engineer further cautions residents living in low-lying lands of the Kelani Valley to be vigilant.
