Religious leaders have vehemently condemned the conspiracy mooted by the United National Party summoning of Channel 4 journalists to Sirikotha. They emphasized that the entire nation should maintain a close tab in this respect.

The Ven. Prof. Kumburugamuwe Vajira Thera said the UNP is a party which had leaders such as D.S. Senanayake who loved the country. But it is unfortunate that this party is now engaged in a conspiracy to denigrate the country. He said he is calling on the people to be aware of it.

The Ven. Galagama Dhammaransi Thera pointed out that they totally condemn this group of rogues which directly and indirectly supports terrorism in the country.

Bishop of Kurunegala Rt. Rev. Shantha Francis mentioned that building unity and welfare among the people after a 30-year conflict period is a dire task. As religious leaders, he said that they are fully hurt about the actions of the UNP, which is a leading political party and which has a long history, at a time when the President was discharging his duties in this respect with immense difficulties.

Al Haj Hassan Moulana Moulavi said they totally deplored the actions of local as well as foreign conspiratorial forces which are engaged in an effort to destroy the peaceful environment prevailing in the country.

Rev Fr. Sarath Hettiarachchi said that a handful claiming to be leftists and with buried agendas, under various guises are getting ready to create non-existing problems in the country. They are engaged in slinging mud at the country even in the world. He said that their main intention is to return the country to that dark era.
