Ketayam Chinthaka alias Chinthaka Wasantha the main suspect of the murder of a police constable and his wife in Kamburupitiya has been killed.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that all the suspects linked to the murder are dead.
The Police Media Spokesman said that three suspects linked to the murder were earlier arrested. Also they received information last night that the mastermind of the attack Ketayam Chinthaka alias Chinthaka Wasantha was hiding in a mountainous region at Naigala within the Kamburupitiya Police Division. While a search operation was in progress in the area, a hand grenade was hurled at the Special Task Force officers. Thereafter the STF sleuths opened fire at the direction from where the hand grenade was thrown. A body was recovered following a search operation mooted thereafter.
The SSP said that it had identified that the body was that of the main suspect involved in the murder. He had masterminded the murder with the support of three others. They had planned to kill the entire family. Two members of the STF were injured in this incident. They have been admitted to the KamburupitiyaHospital. The Matara Additional Magistrate conducted the magisterial inquiry today.
The Police Media Spokesman added that the body had been brought to the MataraHospital for the conduct of a post mortem.
