The damage unleashed by the terrorists to public property as well as the people cannot be estimated. More blood would have been shed by these notorious terrorists if the war heroes did not rout them and bring peace to the country due to the prudent leadership of the President.

The tiger terrorists waging a battle with the war heroes in Eluwativu and Nayanathivu areason 27th December 1988 killed a soldier, thus commencing the shedding of blood in the dark era. The terrorists unleashed an attack on a group of war heroes in the Muttur area in Trincomalee on 27th December 1994, killing two soldiers.

Again on 27th December 1997, two war heroes who were providing security to civilians in the Jayanthiyaya area were killed in a terrorist attack. On the same day a group of terrorists who reached the vicinity of the Vavuniya Forward Defence Line mooted an attack on the war heroes killing two war heroes. Elephant Pass was the next target of the tiger terrorists. 52 war heroes made supreme sacrifices in this assault on behalf of the unity of the motherland. In another terrorist attack on the same day, the terrorists took away the lives of three gallant soldiers.

On 27th December in the year 2005, the terrorists exploded a bomb targeting a vehicle of the 524th Brigade in the Orankatti area, thus depriving the country the noble services of 12 war heroes. Four innocent civilians died in an attack unleashed by the dreadful tiger terrorists in the Kurumankadu area on 27th December in the year 2007. The attack was targeted at EPDP members.

In the year 2008, on a day like today, the remorseless terrorists mooted several attacks in the Iranamadu, Kumalamunai and Oddusudan areas targeting the war heroes. In these attacks, 41 war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the unity of the country.

When terrorism which was scourging the country for 30 years was annihilated on 18th May 2009, the terrorists had taken away the lives of four civilians and 126 war heroes on 27th December throughout the fear psychosis period. Freedom was endowed to the country by President Rajapaksa without being deterred in the face of local as well as extraneous forces with the intention of creating a peaceful environment for the posterity.

The patriotic fraternity of the country had already proved to the world that they will not permit any force to betray the freedom that prevails in the motherland. It is pathetic to note that foreign forces as well as their stooges had not yet understood this phenomenon.
