Today is the International Day of People with Disability. The theme is “Full participation and Equality.”
The International Day of People with Disability is observed to celebrate people across the world who are living with any kind of disability. Any disability results because of an impairment that may be physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, developmental, or some combination of these. A disability may be present from birth, or occur during a person’s lifetime. Health reports point out that the number of persons suffering from disability is on the rise. Many programmes were held throughout the country to mark the event.
In the meantime, 2.6 million rupees is being given under US Government assistance to meet the facilities required by differently-abled students pursuing studies at the Colombo University. The signing of this agreement took place under the auspices of US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Michele J Sison and Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Colombo University Prof. Premakumara de Silva at the Colombo University today.
