Asian-Gulf Dialogue on conditions of migrant workers begins

The Asian Gulf Regional Dialogue on conditions for migrant domestic aides begins.


Representatives of many countries gather in Colombo to uplift security and welfare of migrant services.


The Asian Gulf Regional Dialogue with the participation of suppliers and requestors of migrant labour commenced in Colombo today. Ministers Prof. G.L. Peiris and Dilan Perera are representing Sri Lanka. India, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Philippines, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are participating in the Dialogue as migrant labour suppliers. Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar have joined in the conference as requestors of migrant labour.


The conference is being attended by the UN Women’s Organization and several countries including Switzerland and China as resource contributors. Its aim is to discuss the consolidation of the security of the migrant labour fraternity, strengthen labour laws and create a positive service environment. The Dialogue ends tomorrow.
