The funeral of educationist R.I.T. Alles took place at the General Cemetery Kanatte this afternoon amidst the participation of a large gathering of distinguished guests and school children.
The remains of R.I.T. Alles, who passed away last Thursday, were brought to D.S. Senanayake College Colombo from his residence at Kuruppu Mawatha Borella, for the school children to pay their last respects to the founder of the school. R.I.T. Alles was also the founder Principal of the College. He had rendered yeoman service to the country’s education sector.
He held several high positions in the Education Ministry. He was also the founder of the Gateway International School.
School children, past pupils, members of the staff and parents joined in paying their final respects to the remains of R.I.T. Alles which were placed at the R.I.T. Alles Hall of the College. The body was placed at the school for several hours. Thereafter it was taken to the Gateway International School in Rajagiriya. The remains were than brought to the General Cemetery Kanatte in a special motorcade. The funeral procession was led by students of the schools launched by him.
A large gathering including many Parliamentarians was also present.
