The reason for the current budget defeats in the local government institutions is the focus on wealth and power instead of principled politics.
The General Secretary of the SLFP pointed out that those who aspire to undertake a long political journey under the party should be principled and disciplined.
SLFP General Secretary Maitripala Sirisena expressed this view addressing the gathering at the inaugural function of the new auditorium. It was constructed at the expenditure of 6 million rupees. The Chief Minister of the Southern Province Shan Wijayalal de Silva also participated in the occasion. Speaking further he said that a number of senior politicians in the country started their careers at the local government institutions. They climbed to the top positions as they honoured the party leadership and the decisions made by the party while conducting themselves in a disciplined and principled manner. The Minister pointed out that some politicians have to abandon their political career at the starting point due to their behaviour.
Minister Maitripala Sirisena stated that as the General Secretary of the party he sees the situation as arising when attempts are being made to improve the economic situation with the power they have. The Minister said that those who are engaged in quality politics carry out humanitarian work paying no regard for money and wealth.
