515 applications have been forwarded to the most powerful force in national politics. The United People’s Freedom Alliance has emphasized that all arrangements are in place for the election battle for the Western and Southern Provincial Councils.
Ministers who joined in the news conference to brief the media on the Freedom Alliance election campaign expressed these views. The news briefing was held at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Headquarters.
Minister Maithripala Sirisena said that a majority of the people are with the Government and the President following long political journey and the experience of the President. They had already finalized and embarked on the election campaign. Former members of the Southern and Western Provincial Councils appeared before the Nomination Board. Many new persons seeking SLFP candidacy also appeared before the Nomination Board. The Minister said that the list of the candidates will be finalized by the 30th of this month. He said they will embark on a victorious campaign after handing over the nominations to the Elections Chief.
Minister Dulles Alahapperuma mentioned that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has become the most powerful force in national politics. As such various groups are attempting to seek candidacy from the Party. The President has appointed District Committees. In addition to these Committees, a strong politico has been appointed as the organizer for every electorate. Conventions have already been held for every District. Regional Councils have also been summoned by the time the nominations have been finalized. He said that there is a politician who is responsible for every polling booth. He added that they were stepping into an advanced election process.
The Galle Elpitiya Independent candidate K.A.D. Sumith who arrived at the venue during the news conference met Minister Maithripala Sirisena and joined the SLFP. The relevant documents were handed over on the occasion. Chairman of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha Amila Kariyawasam was present on the occasion.
