The remorseless terrorists did not value any human life or property. They unleashed an inestimable number of crimes to quench their thirst for blood.
These episodes clearly depicts the ruthlessness and brutality of the crimes committed by this barbaric outfit.
On 23rd January 1985, the terrorists killed three war heroes and commenced their killing spree on this day during the dark era. On 23rd January 1987, the terrorists in another attack killed two war heroes in the Telippalai area. It was a day of grief for the entire country on 23rd January 1991. The tiger terrorists stormed into the Bogamyaya village on this day and slaughtered 25 innocent civilians including toddlers while they were asleep. The entire country grieved over these brutal killings.
Mankulam was the next target of the LTTE on 23rd January 1999. They targeted an attack on group of war heroes. The country was deprived of the services of five brave soldiers. On 23rd January in the year 2006, the terrorists targeted a powerful claymore mine attack on a group of soldiers providing security to the people of the Urani area. Three war heroes lost their lives as a result of this assault.
In the year 2007, on a day like today the tiger terrorists mooted an attack on a group of war heroes at Chavakachcheri in Jaffna. Two gallant soldiers made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the motherland. In the year 2009 also on a day like today, the ruthless terrorists mooted several attacks in Puthukudiyiruppu, Puliyan Pokkanai and Vishwamadu areas. The lives of 20 war heroes were taken away by the terrorists in these skirmishes.
Terrorism which scourged the country for 30 years was totally wiped out on 18th May 2009. By then the total number of lives taken away by the cruel terrorists was 74. This included 31 civilians. The other 43 killed were war heroes. President Rajapaksa as the Commander in Chief, undeterred in the face of various pressure exerted by local as well as foreign forces continuously carried out the operations to rout the terrorists, due to the bold and straightforward decisions taken by him.
The Security Forces with firm dedications advanced under the guidance and instructions of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and succeeded in enthroning permanent peace in the country.
Bomb explosions are not taking place in the country today. Even the sound of gunfire is not heard. All communities are living happily and in unity in a peaceful environment. Even the civilians of the North and East are happy as they can now live without fear and suspicion devoid of terrorism. But certain local as well as extraneous forces cannot bear this situation, as they cannot meet their parochial ends within such an atmosphere.
Light has already been shed in the world over the mass human rights violations committed by the United States and Britain. But Human Rights Organizations which are reticent on these violations are demanding human rights reports with respect to incidents which took place in Sri Lanka during the conflict period. The Sri Lankans are aware that such things are happening mainly to meet their narrow aims. Also the people are aware of how they should respond to such moves.
All communities who have a feeling towards the country had confirmed to the world that they would do anything to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the motherland.
