Investigations with respect to the mass grave exhumed inMannar have been entrusted to the Criminal Investigations Department.
Humane bone fragments were detected during excavations carried out for the laying of water pipes in the Thiruketheeswaran area in Mannar.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that 43 human bone fragments have so far been recovered from the mass grave site. It has not yet been determined as to who had died and their cause of death. Inquiries are proceeding. The area had been under LTTE control for a considerable period.
