Three war heroes lost their lives in an attack unleashed by the tiger terrorists in the Weerawikumpura area on 24th January 1993. The terrorists thus embarked upon their killing spree on 24th January in the dark era. On the same day the terrorists in ambush launched another attack in the Weegasgodella area. As a result 14 war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the country.
It was on 24th January in the year 1993, that the tiger terrorists unleashed a ruthless attack in the Sirimangalapura area taking away the lives of five war heroes. The Komari Army Camp was the next target of the terrorists on 24th January 1998. Five war heroes died in this attack. In the year 2008, also on a day like today the terrorists opened fire in the Adampan. Three gallant soldiers made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the country. On the same day the terrorists exploded a bomb in Muhamalai killing three war heroes. It was also on the same day that the terrorists unleashed a mortar attack in the Wannakulam area. Three heroic soldiers sacrificed their lives on behalf of the unity of the country.
A massive attack was mooted by the tiger terrorists in Visumadumkulam on 24th January 2009. Seven war heroes lost their lives in this incident. It was on the same that these brutal terrorists mooted another severe attack in the Vishwamadu area killing nine brave soldiers.
In the year 2009 also on a day like today, the tiger terrorists launched a massive attack at Tonnipatamkulam, 13 war heroes sacrificed their lives on behalf of the unity of the country in this attack.
The total number killed by the tiger terrorists in the face of their thirst for blood on 24th January throughout the dark period was 73. It included three innocent unarmed civilians and 70 war heroes.
If the heroic soldiers did not end these killings by the remorseless terrorists on 18th May 2009 from the Nanthikadal Lagoon in Wellamulliwaikkal, the country would transformed into a land of the dead. The brave soldiers who advanced with determination and dedication succeeded in bringing permanent peace to the country under the unwavering leadership of the Commander in Chief President Rajapaksa and the proper guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
The heroic soldiers succeeded in liberating more than 300 thousand innocent Tamil civilians from the grip of the vicious terrorists in the humanitarian operation. It was truly a genuine humanitarian operation. The valiant soldiers displayed to the entire world how to protect the fundamental rights of the people during a war. It was actually a fitting example. But is seems that many have been offended by this lesson.
Local forces are upset by this development and the extraneous forces cannot bear it. As such these corrupt forces are demanding human rights reports and inquiry reports on the war from the Head of State and also the war heroes who enthroned real peace in the country. But it has already been proven to the world that human rights were being flagrantly flouted by countries such as Britain and the United States which are demanding human rights reports from Sri Lanka.
The heroic soldiers sacrificed their lives to liberate the nation from the terrorists. The time has come for the entire nation to rise up against elements besmirching such soldiers. The incidents that happened during the fear psychosis period depict the ruthlessness of terrorism. The gallant members of the Security Forces who were caught up in this brutality are being reminisced to the country as well as the world.
