Deposits from Independent candidates contesting the forthcoming Western and Southern Provincial polls is being accepted from today.
Nominations from political parties and independent candidates for the polls will be received from 30th of January to the 06th of February.
Additional Commissioner of Elections R.M.A.L. Ratnayake said that deposits to be placed by the Independent candidates for the polls will be received until 12 noon on the 5th of next month. Each Independent candidate should place a deposit of 2000 rupees. He said that the deposits should be handed over at the respective District Election Offices. Deposits will not be accepted after 12 noon on the 05th of February. He added that applications for the handing over of nominations can be obtained from the District Secretaries who will be serving as the Returning Officers.
