Disputes in finances and ideology differences have broken the Tamil diaspora into two fractions. The Tamil diaspora which acted on behalf of LTTE internationally, collected billions of money for them during the active period of the LTTE. They also collect money for the benefit of the members of the diaspora. Following the eradication of terrorism from the county, many problems arose in the Tamil diaspora. Among the main problems were the crediting of money running into billions to the private accounts of certain leaders of the Tamil diaspora and not publishing details of accounts. International reports highlight that the diaspora has been divided due to the problems reaching a crisis level. The Tamil diaspora which has been divided into Global Tamil Forum and British Tamil Forum, has commenced issuing media statements accusing each other. British Tamil Forum says that they did a significant service to create Global Tamil Forum. British Tamil Forum has accused that Global Tamil Forum does not stand for the Tamil people. One of the problems is said to be the refusal of the Global Tamil Forum to admit members of the British Tamil Forum into its governing council. British Tamil Forum has disclosed to media that diaspora committee members have not conducted an election after 2010 and the people who are behind it are committing frauds running into billions of dollars. However impartial observers say that the divided diaspora has mortgaged Sri Lankan Tamils to achieve their aims. They point out that this is clearly evidence by the fact that the diaspora has not come forward to lend any assistance to the Tamil people in the North.
