Arrangements for the conduct of discussions to find out solutions to the Indo-Sri Lanka fisheries problem are being made.
Plans are afoot to hold the discussions in Chennai on the 20th of this month.
The Sri Lankan and Indian Fisheries Ministers have agreed for the conduct of discussions with respect to the fisheries problem encountered by the two countries. Attention will be drawn at this meeting with regard to Indian and Sri Lankan fishermen straying into each others territorial waters. Discussions are also expected to focus on fishermen who are in custody due to various reasons.
The talks are slated to be held in Chennai and a delegation led by Minister Rajitha Senaratne will represent Sri Lanka at the talks. The Indian Finance Minister has directly accused the initiative of the Tamil Nadu Government for the delay in the deliberation of this issue.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha Jeyaram has consented to the conduct of the talks in Chennai on the 20th of this month. Action has been taken to appraise the Indian Prime Minister in writing about these discussions.
