Presidential Media Coordinating Secretary Vijayananda Herath is to file a lawsuit against the Lanka newspaper demanding compensation for defaming him.
Mr. Herath is to file a lawsuit against the Editor of the Lanka newspaper and the journalist who published a fabricated report vindictively sullying his image. He is demanding a compensation of 500 million rupees. The allegation has been made against the Lanka newspaper for besmirching his image through the publication of a report as the main headlined story on the 29th of December 2013.
Expressing views to ITN on the legal action instituted on behalf of Mr. Herath against the Lanka newspaper, his attorney Nilantha Wijesinghe said that the Lanka newspaper in its Sunday edition had used the name and photograph of Presidential Media Coordinating Secretary Vijayananda Herath and published a report sullying his image. This has had a serious impact on his image and career. They estimated the compensation as 500 million rupees. A letter of demand was sent to the Lanka newspaper on the 02nd of this month demanding 500 million rupees. He said that if this compensation was not paid within 14 days, they would initiate legal action against the newspaper.
