The Deputy Speaker and a delegation from the Government of China reach several agreements to solidify Sino-Lanka relations.
A Chinese delegation including the Political Advisor of Shanghai Wu Ximin visiting the island met Deputy Speaker Chaidima Weerakkody this morning. The meeting was held at the Deputy Speaker’s office. Agreement was reached to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Marine Development in Sri Lanka. The Chinese delegation had reiterated that China would extend its unstinted support to defeat the General Resolution brought against Sri Lanka.
Expressing views to the media at the end of the talks, Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody said that the Chinese delegation arrived in the island with the intention of further strengthening relations with Sri Lanka. The delegation explicitly mentioned that the Chinese Government would extend its maximum support to Sri Lanka at the Geneva sessions. As a Government, he said that Sri Lanka is very happy that China was encouraged to undertake investments to further embolden relations with the island nation.
