People countrywide are organizing various demonstrations protesting conspiracies against the motherland.
A multi religious conference and a walk were held in Kurunegala to protest attempts made by certain elements to further put the country into difficulty via the Geneva Human Rights Council session in the face of the world creating communal and religious rifts. More than 1000 people arrived in a procession to the Northwestern Provincial Council Complex from the Kurunegala Municipal Council Grounds. Many people’s representatives including Senior Minister S.B. Nawinna and Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa were among those present.
In the meantime, there was also a massive protest organized at the Galnewa town against the Geneva Resolution. Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities jointly engaged in the demonstration for nearly one hour displaying posters.
The Ven. Nugatenne Pagnananda Thera, the Chief Sanghanayake of the Northern and North Central Provinces said that the Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and Burgher communities had collectively secured peace.
Moulavi M.S.M. Fasreen said that the President succeeded in ending a war which plagued the country for 30 years. A peaceful environment now prevails in the country. The entire country is enjoying this peace. He said they are protesting against the initiatives that are in progress in Geneva under such a situation. He added that everyone should join hands and rise against this Geneva conspiracy.
