Many opposition activists have joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party with the campaigning in the Provincial Council polls reaching the peak.
900 activists from the United National Party and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna from the Avissawella electorate have joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. These activists from the Galagedara Moratuwakanda area within the Avissawella electorate secured SLFP membership. They said that they decided to ditch their parties and join the Sri Lanka Freedom Party as they were disillusioned with the political process of these two parties.
Another group of United National Party and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna activists from Kalutara North has joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. They secured SLFP membership during a public meeting held under the patronage of Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena.
In the meantime, Sanath Ranasinghe, a United National Party member of the Mirigama Pradeshiya Sabha left the Party and joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Mr. Ranasinghe secured SLFP membership at a public meeting held at Pahalagama in Weveldeniya under the patronage of Abhiliyaman Chairperson Pushpa Rajapaksa. Among those present on the occasion was Parliamentarian Wasantha Senanayake.
