President Rajapaksa has declared open the Mahindodaya Technical Laboratory of Maharagama Central College and the new Swimming Pool of Dharmapala Vidyalaya in Kottawa.
The Mahindodaya Technical Laboratory at the Maharagama Central College established under the programme of developing 1000 Primary Schools in the island based on the Mahinda Chinthana Forward Vision was vested in the students by President Rajapaksa this morning. It is equipped with a Laboratory, a Computer Laboratory and a Language Laboratory. After its opening the President also undertook an observation visit of the Laboratory.
In between the observation visit the President seized the opportunity of exchanging pleasantries with the students.
Meanwhile the President also vested in the students the newly constructed Swimming Pool of Dharmapala Vidyalaya in Kottawa this morning.
The expenditure incurred on the Swimming Pool which was built for the benefit of the students of the College and the schools within the environs was 10.1 million rupees. It has been built as a fully-fledged Swimming Pool.
The President also awarded 500 thousand rupees, the first benefits of the Supasan Guru Pawura Life Insurance Scheme operative under the Western Provincial Education Ministry to W.M. Premalal, the husband of the late H.K.D.R. Priyamwada, who passed away while serving at the Averihena Vidyaloka Vidyalaya in Hokandara.
The President also presented a merit certificate to Bhagya Madushan Hapugoda, a student of Dharmapala Vidyalaya Kottawa for securing the fifth place among 100 countries in the 21st international art competition conducted in the year 2012, for creating a greenery environment in view of the United Nations Environment Day.
The President also joined in viewing a swimming pageant presented by the school children.
Principal of Dharmapala Vidyalaya C.B. Kodikara presented a memento to the President to mark his visit to the School.
