The President has declared open the three storeyed building which houses the new Shrine of the Relics and the Library of the Jambuketiya Sri Sugatharama Maha Vihare at Haaliwala in Galle.
President Rajapaksa who visited the Jambuketiya Sri Sugatharama Maha Vihare at Haaliwala this morning, engaged in religious observances and secured blessings. Thereafter he joined in the inauguration of the three storeyed building of the Vihare which houses the new Shrine of the Relics and the Library of the Vihare.
President Rajapaksa who called on the Ven. Pallawala Sumedhawansa Nayake thera, the Chief Incumbent of the Vihare, inquired into his wellbeing during a brief discussion. Members of the Maha Sangha including the Chief Sanghanayake of the South and Chancellor of the Ruhuna University the Ven. Pallaththara Sumanajothi Nayake Thera, Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody, Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama and Parliamentarian Ramesh Pathirana were among those present on the occasion.
The people of Haaliwala and Jambuketiya on hearing the about the President’s visit to the Sri Sugatharama Maha Vihare converged on the Vihare and offered their tributes to him. The President also exchanged pleasantries with the people.
