No one can forget the massive devastation unleashed by the tiger terrorist who main aspiration was the destroy lives and property a time when the ferocious shadows of terrorism spanned the entire country.
These inhumane atrocities were totally eliminated with the enthronement of peace in the country by the heroic soldiers as a result of their dedications and supreme sacrifices.
The tiger terrorists mooted an attack on the military camp in Kankesanthurai on 22nd April 1987 and killed 14 war heroes. Thus these barbaric insurgents embarked on their killing spree on 22nd April throughout the dark period. On the same day the terrorists launched another attack in Pulmuddai targeting a group of soldiers. As a result the country lost the valuable services of 17 brave soldiers.
On 22nd April 1995, the terrorists mooted a powerful assault in the Kattamunaivilan area, taking away the lives of 28 war heroes. In the year 1998 also on a day like today the terrorists lurking in the Paranthan area unleashed an assault on a group of war heroes killing two of them. On 22nd April in the year 2000 the tiger terrorists killed two more war heroes in an assault launched at Chavakachcheri in Jaffna.
These insurgents killed two innocent civilians in the Nelliadi area on 22nd April 2006. These civilians were engaged in cultivations in their farmland. The terrorists launched an attack at the Muhamalai Forward Defence Line in Jaffna on 22nd April 2008. As a result three heroic soldiers sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland.
In the year 2009 also on a day like today the tiger terrorists carried out several attack in the Puthumathalan and Puthukudiyiruppu area targeting the troops providing security to the motherland. 12 war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the unity of the motherland.
Terrorism which was a bane for the country for 30 years was annihilated on 18th May 2009. By then the number of lives taken away by the terrorists to quench their thirst for blood was 96. Among them were three innocent civilians. The other 93 were members of the Security Forces.
The troops commenced their advancement making supreme sacrifices following the fearless decisions taken by President Rajapaksa and under the prudent guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. The troops brought freedom to the country ending terrorism amidst many dedications. The people of the country will not permit anyone to destroy this freedom and the peace that is being enjoyed by the entire nation.
Certain organizations which are exerting various pressure under the cover of human rights are doing so to achieve the parochial aims of the Western powers. The patriotic citizens have already identified these groups. It is a long time ago that they have decided as to how these groups should be treated. Elements which go against the motherland are aware of as to what their fate should be, if they attempt to destroy this freedom in the country.
The entire nation will not be reluctant to defeat various forces and conspiracies, safeguarding the leader as well as the country. It is purely because the patriotic fraternity which loves the country is living within the island nation.
