Kumar Sangakkara entered the Twenty20 format against England in the year 2006. He retires from this format of the game making a vital contribution to clinching the Twenty20 World Cup in 2014. Since joining the game, he had played in 56 Twenty20s scoring 1382 runs. He has eight half centuries to his credit. He had also skippered a Twenty20 World Cup. A notable feature was his ability to score a half century in the final Twenty20 that he had played.
In the meantime, Mahela Jayawardene had the privilege of playing in the Twenty20 format in 2006 also against England. He had played in 55 such encounters and scored 1493 runs. It included a century and nine half centuries. He led Sri Lanka in the last Twenty20 World
