The society should protect our culture. The President has said that all media has a responsibility to protect the culture without destroying it. The annual executive of the year ceremony of the Capital Maharajah Organization was held in Colombo under the patronage of the President. Addressing the gathering President Mahainda Rajapaksa said that the media could play a decisive role to the progress of the society and democracy. The President requested the private sector to utilize the opportunities that have arisen due to the present peaceful environment in the country. The President pointed out that development plans should be made targeting the year 2050, but not the next five or ten years. He emphasized the need for the country to move forward on strong economic fundamentals and democracy. The President said that the development of the private sector along with the state sector was extremely important. He said that the cooperation of both these sectors can contribute to the long term development. He added that the Central Bank reports have confirmed the economic development of the country and the international community has accepted that Sri Lanka has the Asia’s fastest development rate next to China.
