Raids will be conducted to nab traders who sell stale food to the consumers.

The Consumer Affairs Authority says that it has deployed three special groups to conduct raids to nab traders who sell food unsuitable for human consumption. Mr. Ranjith Weerawardena of the District Raid Unit said that they have been instructed to conduct raids in the Gampaha District by deploying 3 special teams during the festive season. He said that raids were conducted yesterday on the instructions of the Minister. He further said that they have been directed to conduct raids throughout the district even on holidays and nights. Raids would be conducted to nab traders who charge the consumers more than the displayed price, for selling food which has exceeded the date of expiry and for not displaying the price of textiles. He said that people could inform them about the errant traders on telephone numbers 011-7755455/ 6 or 033-7755455.
