Multi religious leaders have commended the initiative taken to establish a separate Police Unit on the instructions of President Rajapaksa to address religious issues.

This Special Police Unit will take initiatives if any issue related to any religion surfaces. The religious leaders referred to it as a significant initiative.

Chief Incumbent of the Sri Pada Vihare the Ven. Bengamuwe Dhammadinna Thera referred to the support and cooperation of the President being always received for the proper operation of all activities related to religion. His recent initiative was not taken alone by him. It was taken after summoning all officials concerned and deliberating the matter. The prelate said this was an appropriate decision taken by the President.

Moulavi I.M. Safarullah Khan of the Jumma Mosque in Ratnapura pointed out that the country had a leader who treats all religions alike. It is appropriate that he has taken a decision to establish a Special Police Unit at a time when issues related to religions had surfaced. He expressed his gratitude to the President on behalf of the Muslims for the initiative taken by him.
