Special Traffic Plan for May Day

A special traffic plan will be operative in Colombo in view of the May Day commemorations.


The Police said that a special traffic plan will be launched in Colombo and its environs in view of the May Day processions tomorrow. Accordingly the movement of traffic will be restricted on Kannangara Mawatha, Deans Road, Maradana Road up to Borella Junction. Traffic will be one-way from Pittala Junction and Malpara Junction to JOC Junction.

The Red Cross Junction, Glass House and Flower Road can only be used for vehicles coming for the May Day commemoration and also by residents of the area. Vehicles moving from Galle Road and Pettah to Negombo or Kandy can enter the Negombo Road from Olcott Mawatha in Pettah via Armour Junction and the Victoria Bridge. The same alternative routes can be used by vehicles plying from Negombo or Kandy to Havelock Road, Galle Road and Pettah.

There will be obstructions at the Borella Junction from 12 noon with the commencement of the May Day processions. As such vehicles moving towards Peliyagoda can ply via the Kanatte Roundabout, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Thunmulla, Galle Road and Pettah.

Vehicles moving from Kandy Road to Borella should travel from Ingurukade Junction via Armour Street, Main Street, Pettah, Kollupitiya, Duplication Road and Thunmulla. Vehicles plying from Kandy road to Narahenpita, Rajagiriya and Nugegoda should turn left from the Orugodawatte Junction and move along Kolonnawa Road, Rajagiriya, Cotta Road and Welikada, from 10 am until the main May Day procession ends.
