UPFA May Day rally at Campbell Place – Theme “Protecting Freedom and the Motherland.”

The United People’s Freedom Alliance May Day rally will be held this year too under the patronage of President Rajapaksa at Campbell Place. The May Day procession will begin from near the Nelum Pokuna. The theme is “Protecting Freedom and the Motherland.”


These details were revealed at a media conference organized at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Headquarters to give information on the United Peoples Freedom Alliance May Day procession and rally. Addressing journalists Minister Gamini Lokuge said that the United People’s Freedom Alliance Government had taken action to continuously safeguard the rights of workers. He pointed out that the Government had provided optimum facilities that could be granted to the public workers.


The Minister pointed out that the Government did not take any initiative to cut salaries of public servants, or curtail the Samurdhi or the fertilizer subsidy. It took action to safeguard the status quo and even to add some more. Before the crafting of every budget the President summoned Government as well as Opposition Trade Unions. The Minister said that he discussed their requests and took action to sort them out. Decisions were taken mainly for the welfare of the working class. The Government maintains close relations with the working class as well as the public service. He was optimistic that around 600 thousand would join the May Day rally in Colombo. It would be become a very strong May Day rally.


Labour leaders gave a pledge to work in collaboration with the President and support him to fearlessly face challenges posed from the world.
