The entire nation will never forget the ferocity and the brutality

of terrorism as they were battered by this scourge for thirty years. The country was liberated from this menace following the supreme sacrifices made by the heroic soldiers with much dedication. If not the country would have still being covered with dark shadows.

11th June 1985 was a sad day for the entire country. The barbaric tiger terrorists who stormed into the Dehiwatte village brutally slaughtered 15 innocent civilians, displaying their ruthlessness to the entire world. On the same day the terrorists exploded two buses in which innocent civilians were travelling. As a result they took away the lives of another 16 innocent civilians, denigrating humanity.

On 11th June 1987, the terrorists exploded a pressure bomb in the Weppakulam area in Vavuniya targeting a vehicle in which Muslim civilians were travelling. 13 innocent civilians lost their lives in this explosion. On 11th June in the year 1990, was a day in which the terrorists took away a large number of lives.

Under the pretext of the so-called peace programme of the then United National Party Government and receiving the blessings of the ceasefire, the terrorists slaughtered hundreds of unarmed Police officials, shocking the entire world. These merciless tiger terrorists killed 160 Police Officers who were serving in the Kalmunai and Akkaraipattu Police Stations. Again on the same day they brutally massacred 86 Police Officers who were serving in the Batticaloa, Eravur, Kattankudy and Kalkudah Police Stations. They engaged in shedding blood in this manner under the cover of the ceasefire.

The terrorists unleashed an attack on the Valachchenai Police station on 11th June 1990 transforming it to a day of the dead. 40 Police heroes gave up their lives on behalf of the unity of the motherland. They did not end their killing spree at this juncture. On the same day the cruel terrorists grabbed the lives of another 71 Police Officers who were serving in the Pottuvil Police Station.

The tiger terrorists who unleashed carnage transforming the country into a lake of blood exploded a landmine in the Palaly area on 11th June 1992 targeting an Army vehicle. The number of lives of the war heroes taken away by the terrorists was 21.

The terrorists barged into the Dehiwatte village on 11th June 1995 and massacred 13 innocent villagers including children. Demented by the defeats suffered, the merciless tiger terrorists took away the lives of another 14 innocent civilians within the Eluwankulam village on 11th June 1996 sending shock waves throughout the country.

The next target of the terrorists was Erukkalampiddi. In the attack unleashed on 11th June 2008, the terrorists took away the lives of another four war heroes.

Terrorism which blighted the country in this manner was brought to an end by the members of the Security Forces. That historic day was 18th May 2009. By then the tiger terrorists had taken away a total of 526 lives. Among them were 72 innocent unarmed civilians. The other 454 were heroic soldiers.

Following the decisions taken by the unflinching and fearless leader President Rajapaksa as the Commander in Chief and under the guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the heroic soldiers succeeded in advancing in the humanitarian operations. As a result, a free and peaceful country was bequeathed to the nation by liberating the motherland from the grip of the terrorists. All communities are living happily within that peaceful country. Local as well as extraneous forces are determined to devastate that freedom enjoyed by the nation. However, the patriotic fraternity does not permit to hinder the freedom of the motherland to meet the needs of the Tamil Diaspora or groups loyal to the terrorists. The patriotic citizens had proved this not only by word but over and over again through their deeds.

These dark memories are being refreshed in these episodes that the nation may act responsibly in a manner that ensures such destruction would not recur. Action has been taken to display the photographs of the war heroes who made supreme sacrifices in the battle to rout terrorism and discharge a noble service as an honour to the sacrifices they have made.
