President Rajapaksa engages in religious observances at the historic Sithulpawwa Sacred Site.


The President visited the historic Sithulpawwa Raja Maha Vihare which is under preparation to stage the Poson Festival. The President initially engaged in religious observances at the Vihare. The President offered flowers and Kiripindu to the newly constructed Buddha Statue.

The President then called on the Chief Incumbent of the Sithulpawwa Raja Maha Vihare the Ven. Metaramba Nayake Thera and made queries into his wellbeing. The prelate applauded the President for the untiring support extended to make the Poson Festival of the Sithulpawwa Raja Maha Vihare a success.

The Maha Sangha chanted Seth Pirith and blessed the President. He thereafter treated the Gemunu tusker which always visits the Sithulpawwa Raja Maha Vihare with fruits.

The President exchanged pleasantries with the devotees who had gathered at the Vihare.

Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa and Presidential Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath were among those who joined the President in these religious observances and other activities.
