Why Duminda did not participate in the Anuradhapura rally?
Under the theme ‘bring back Mahinda” the inaugural giant rally was held yesterday the 17th instant at the
Salgado grounds, in Anuradhapura under the Patronage of the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. However for this meeting the leader of the Anuradhapura district of the United People’s Freedom Alliance, Minister of agriculture Duminda Dissanayake had not participated.However he has obtained nominations to contest from the Anuradhapura district from the United Peoples Freedom Alliance in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
Duminda Dissanayake left his ministerial portfolio and joined with the then common candidate Maithripala Sirisena in his presidential election.Although several members who left along with him to help Maithripala Sirisena to become President are contesting under the United National Party symbol. But he had remained with the former UPFA and would be contesting under his former party.
He had said that his conscience did not allow him to attend the meeting, but his supporters had helped in the organising the meeting and had attended it.
Duninda Dissanayake is the son of late Berty Premalal ,but the meeting had been organised by S.M.Chandrasena a huge supporter of Mahinda Rajapaksa but an opposing and a rival member member of Berty Premalal and Minister Duminda Dissanayake.
