The religious ceremony to open the historic Sandagiri Seya which was conserved, for worship by the public took place under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. Sandagiri Seya which belongs to Anuradhapura era was conserved by the Central Cultural Fund under Southern Tourism Project. The Ministry of Education has provided financial assistance for conservation work.
