A new website on food and nutritional requirements will be launched tomorrow in Colombo to raise public awareness on nutrition.
An outlet that sells vegetables and fruits that were organically grown will also be inaugurated at the Sambodhi Vihare in Colombo 7. The website on the food requirements has been designed by the Government Medical Officers Association to raise awareness on food. Arrangements have been made to launch the website at the Sambodhi Vihare tomorrow. The first part of the website consists of advice on breast feeding while the second part will be launched next month. The GMOA said that awareness will be created about the nutrition of the infants between 6 months and one year during that stage. The prevalence of non communicable diseases is believed to have increased due to the consumption of instant food and food containing chemicals. The ratio has been much higher in comparison to the spread of communicable diseases. The death rate due to non communicable diseases has also increased. The GMOA said that the website consists the required information on food that must be consumed, taking the prevailing situation into consideration.
