Private buses are to be deployed on the new routes proposed in the 2014 budget.
Proposals were also made in the budget to develop many roads constructing 1000 new bridges. Minister C.B. Ratnayake has instructed the officials of his Ministry to craft the related plans for the deployment of private buses on these routes.
Transport services under the Sisu Seriya, Gemi Seriya and Nisi Seriya transport services which are operative under the supervision of the National Transport Commission, will also be operated on these routes. Accordingly the 1125 Sisu Seriya buses will be increased to 1300 from next year. The 40 buses operating under Gemi Seriya will be increased to 120 while 150 Nisi Seriya buses will be increased to 250. These details surfaced at a progress review meeting at the Private Transport Services Ministry.
