Tiger terrorism which was a threat to the motherland for three decades not only destroyed lives but also the economy, causing immense damage.
Such ruthless incidents which occurred in the country are recorded in the dark era.
This is another episode which recalls the brutality unleashed by this dreadful outfit.
A group of terrorists unleashed an attack on war heroes at Valachchenai in Batticaloa on 08th January 1998. In this attack four war heroes sacrificed their lives on behalf of the country. On 08th January 2005, the tiger terrorists stormed into the Vakare area where villagers were engaged in farming. As a result of this assault, three innocent unarmed civilians were killed. On 08th January 2009, the ruthless terrorists unleashed several attacks on war heroes in the Kilaly and Palai areas. Five brave soldiers made supreme sacrifices on behalf of their motherland in these attacks.
Terrorism which scourged the country in this manner was uprooted on 18th May 2009. The number of lives taken away by the remorseless terrorists on 08th January throughout this dark period was 21. Among them were six civilians. The others were war heroes.
If the heroic soldiers did not eliminate terrorism was plagued the country, taking away valuable lives of innocent civilians and war heroes, an inestimable number of lives would have been lost.
The war heroes succeeded in enthroning sustainable peace in the country due to the straightforward decisions taken by President Rajapaksa, undeterred in the face of local as well as extraneous forces. The peace loving citizens are now united and enjoying to the maximum the peaceful climate in the country. But as a result of the attempts made by local as well as foreign forces to create disturbances, is a threat to the peaceful environment.
Light has already been shed in the world on mass murders carried out by powerful countries such as the United States and Britain flagrantly violating human rights. Such countries are seeking human rights reports from Sri Lanka. The war heroes saved more than 300 thousand innocent Tamil civilians from the clutches of the terrorists and treated them humanely even by handing over their meals to them to end their hunger. Isn’t this the best example that can be given to the world on how the brave soldiers safeguarded human rights?
