The remorseless terrorists spread terror throughout the country for 30 years. The devastation unleashed by the terrorists to public property and the many lives taken away by them are countless.
This is another episode of the brutality of the terrorists that is being reminisced in this episode.
Three naval ratings were killed in an attack unleashed by the ruthless tiger terrorists on a naval trawler in the Katiyakanda sea belt on 09th January 1989. The terrorists thus embarked on their killing spree on 09th January throughout the dark era. On a day like today in the year 1992, the blood thirsty tiger terrorists launched shell attacks in the Vavuniya area taking away the lives of eight heroic soldiers.
On 09th January 1997, the ruthless terrorists stormed into the Elephant Pass Army Camp and unleashed a massive attack on the war heroes who were dedicating their services on behalf of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. It is pathetic to say that these remorseless terrorists took away the valuable lives of 241 war heroes.
On 09th January 2006, two brave soldiers lost their lives in a shell attack mooted by the tiger terrorists in the Thavasikulam area. Demented by the continuous defeats suffered, the brutal tiger terrorists massacred two war heroes in the Aslankulam area on 09th January 2009. They targeted another attack on the same day at Neluoya. Three brave soldiers who were caught up in a bomb explosion gave up their lives on behalf of the motherland. Four innocent Tamil civilians were also killed in this attack.
The number of valuable lives of soldiers taken away by the tiger terrorists who plagued the country for 30 years on 09th January throughout the fear psychosis period was 278. They had also killed 11 innocent civilians. According to reports recorded in the dark era, the total lives taken away by the ruthless terrorists on 09th January was 289.
If the gallant soldiers did not enthrone peace by routing these ruthless terrorists risking their lives, the number of killings they would have carried out is inestimable. The brave soldiers fearlessly advanced and determinedly enthroned peace in the country due to the direct decisions taken by the President undeterred by persuasions from the local as well as extraneous forces.
All communities are reaping maximum benefits within the peaceful environment prevailing in the country. But the peaceful environment enthroned in the motherland is great threat to local as well as alien forces determined to create a conflict situation. Light has already been shed in the world on the blatant human rights violations committed by Britain and the United States. These world powers with such a background are demanding human rights reports from Sri Lanka.
The war heroes liberated more than 300 thousand innocent civilians from the clutches of the terrorists and donated their food and drink to eliminate the hunger and thirst of these helpless people displaying their humane treatment to the entire world.
