Several 2000 and 5000 rupees forged currency notes have been recovered from several locations. The Police have alerted the nation to be cautious in the use of such notes.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that some 1000 rupee forged notes were recovered from the Mawanella area the day before yesterday. Also 288 5000-rupee forged notes were recovered during a special raid carried out by the Negombo Police yesterday. If these were real currency notes, its value would have been 1.4 million rupees. Similarly in this manner, about two and half months back, a stock of forged notes with a value of seven million rupees were recovered from the Malambe area. This clearly depicts that more forged notes are in circulation.

As such SSP Ajith Rohana called on the public to be cautious in the use of these currency notes. He advised the public not to be in possession of any suspicious notes but to hand it over to the nearest Police Station.
