Interviews for the selection of Sri Lanka Freedom Party candidates for the forthcoming Western and Southern Provincial Council polls were held at the Party Headquarters today.
The Nomination Board for the selection of candidates from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party for the 2014 Western and Southern Provincial polls met at the Party Headquarters today. The selection of candidates for the Western Provincial Council polls took place under the patronage of Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa. He was joined by Ministers Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and S.B. Dissanayake, Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake, and Uva Province Chief Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa.
The selection of Sri Lanka Freedom Party candidates for the Southern Provincial Council polls took place with the participation of Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzie, Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa, Project Minister Nirmala Kotalawala and Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister Mahipala Herath.
There are more than 200 new applicants seeking SLFP candidacy. But the Party said that there are only 25 vacancies for both Provincial Councils. SLFP General Secretary and Minister Maithripala Sirisena said that the list of candidates of the United People’s Freedom Alliance for the Western and Southern Provincial Councils is scheduled to be finalized before the 27th of this month.
