Government fulfilling all responsibilities on behalf of the people – President

President Rajapaksa has emphasized that the Government will fulfil to the maximum every responsibility on behalf of the people. He said that the main aim of the Mahinda Chinthana is to impart everything to all, the privileges enjoyed by a few.


The President was speaking after opening the water supply scheme in the Mulleriyawa area in Kotikawatte. The Scheme will meet the water needs of more than 150 thousand people. The expenditure incurred on the Project launched by Sri Lanka in collaboration with Japan was 4785 million rupees.


Addressing the function which followed the opening of the Scheme, the President said that the Government had taken the initiative of granting the water subsidy to the people in the manner the fertilizer subsidy was being provided to the cultivators. He pointed out that it is the responsibility of everyone to work with awareness to successfully confront the challenge the entire world will have to face with regard to water. As the Government would be giving priority to the requirements of the people what challenges it had to confront, the President appealed for their contribution to the Government future journey sans being deceived by false campaigns.


The President said that some were accusing the Governor of taking loans. Loans were being taken to provide the basic requirements for the people. The people suffered for 17 years. He told that gathering that they will be receiving water round the clock. 45 percent were being provided pipe borne water for drinking purposes. They expected to provide water for about 70 percent within a short period. He said that what they were doing was passing on the benefits and privileges enjoyed by a handful to everyone.


The Government was meeting the requirements of the people. Water will be the serious crisis the entire world will be facing in the future. Everyone should be ready to preserve water. Various attacks will be mooted on the Government in addition to slinging mud, when these programmes were being launched. He added that the Government will bear such things on behalf of the people.


Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzie, Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Deputy Ministers Geethanjana Gunawardena and Nirupama Rajapaksa, Parliamentarians Thilanga Sumathipala and Duminda Silva and Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana were among those present on the occasion.
