President views drama staged by prisoners

In the meantime, despite the heavy load of work, President Rajapaksa stepped into the Tower Hall Theatre in Maradana this morning to view a significant drama.

The State Drama Festival is now in progress at the Tower Hall Theatre in Maradana. “Weerayo Maranna Be” was a special drama that was staged this morning as an invited drama of the State Drama Festival. The significance of this drama is that all the artistes acting in this drama being inmates of the Welikada Prison. 33 prisoners have contributed in acting to this stage drama.

The presence of President Rajapaksa in viewing this drama was an encouragement to these prison inmates. Music, singing, stage decorations, costumes and all other activities related to the drama had also been contributed by these inmates. Ministers Chandrasiri Gajadheera, T.B. Ekanayake and C.B. Ratnayake also joined the President in viewing this stage drama.

The drama had been produced under the guidance of Commissioner General for Prisons Chandraratne Pallegama in collaboration with the Welikada Senior Prisons Superintendent Gamini Jayasinghe and the President of the Prison’s Welfare Association Upali Rajapaksa.
