Dark memories on 21st March

Add comments

The daily routine of the ruthless tiger terrorists was to take away many human lives as possible, to quench their thirst for blood. The massive destruction they unleashed in the country for 30 years is inestimable.

The hemorrhage they unleashed flagrantly violating human rights carrying out murders is being recounted in this feature.

The tiger terrorists launching a shell attack at Velvettithurai on 21st March 1979 took away the life of a war hero. Thus they embarked on their murder spree on 21st March throughout the dark era. On 21st March 1991, the terrorists lurking in the Sinhapura village mooted a ruthless attack, killing eight war heroes. In the year 1999 also on a day like today the tiger terrorists exploded a claymore mine in the Puvarasakulam area and took away valuable lives of seven war heroes.

On 21st March 2001, the sea tigers mooted a powerful attack on naval heroes who were protecting the Mullaitivu sea limits from the terrorists. As a result five naval heroes sacrificed their lives on behalf of the country. Again on 21st March 2007, the blood thirsty terrorists unleashed a mortar attack in the Mavadivembu area. Four war heroes caught up in this attack lost their lives.

In the year 2009 also on 21st March two war heroes were killed in a ruthless attack mooted by the terrorists in the Pattikarai area. Demented by the heavy defeats suffered in the hands of the gallant soldiers, the terrorists on the same day launched a powerful attack in the Puthukudiyiruppu area killing 15 war heroes. Thampuram was the next target of the terrorists on 21st March 2009. The mooted a powerful attack. As a result seven war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the motherland.

The number of lives taken away by the terrorists on 21st March throughout the fear psychosis period was 61. This included two innocent civilians. The other 59 were valiant soldiers. If the last shot on the insurgency was not fired at the Nanthikadal Lagoon on 18th May 2009, and halted this brutalism which egregiously violated human rights, the country would have been dominated by the tiger terrorists.

But as a result of the prudent leadership of President Rajapaksa, who is the Commander in Chief and the proper guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the members of the Security Forces succeeded in advancing in the humanitarian operations and annihilating terrorism and enthroning permanent peace in the country.

In which way should responses be made to the fabricated human allegations made by certain local as well as foreign forces, against the war heroes and the State leader who liberated the innocent Tamil civilians who were languishing under the jackboot of the tiger terrorists, clearly safeguarding fundamental rights. Tangible responses to these allegations lie in the hands of the patriotic fraternity.
