World Kidney Day was observed in the country as elsewhere in the world today.
The national ceremony to mark World Kidney Day was held in Polonnaruwa. Walks and street dramas were organized to appraise the people of the area. Doctors and nurses of the Polonnaruwa General Hospital joined in these events. Even the veddah community and schools also joined in the walk. The ceremony to commemorate World Kidney Day was held under the auspices of Health Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayatilake.
The Health Secretary revealed that in addition to the allocation made from the budget, the President has also given a sum of one million rupees to control the kidney disease. North Central Ministers P.B. Ratnayake and Peshala Jayaratne and Provincial Councillor Amarakeerthi Athukorale were present.
