Minister Basil Rajapaksa has revealed that Sri Lanka’s unemployment rate has hit a historic low. He emphasized that Sri Lanka’s performance is much better than certain European countries.
The Minister said that programme such as Divi Neguma were launched with the intention of upgrading the lives of families. This is a programme crafted for the families to earn some income from their home garden. The unemployment percentage of many European countries is around 45. But in Sri Lanka it had come down to 4.5 percent. Many factories advertise that there are vacancies. The Minister said that the country had recorded the lowest unemployment percentage in history.
The Minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a multipurpose building at Mawaramandiya in Biyagama.
The Pura Neguma programme is being launched in several areas, according to the Mahinda Chinthana. The Minister said that it was only at present that development was equally taking place in the town and the village. Deputy Ministers Indika Bandaranayake and Dulip Wijesekara and Chairman of the Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha Ananda Ganepola were among those who joined in this occasion.
