The Consumer Affairs Authority has seized 15,000 gallons of energy drinks and 500 thousand kilogrammes of sugar unsuitable for human consumption.
These were recovered from a large scale storage facility located at Sedawatte in Wellampitiya. The value of the stock of sugar unsuitable for human consumption is said to be nearly 50 million rupees.
Officials of the Consumer Affairs Authority who conducted the raid on the instructions of Minister Johnston Fernando said that the expired stock of sugar was discoloured. It has been revealed that some of the sugar had been newly packed and released to the market. In the meantime, a stock of 15,000 gallons of expired energy drinks worth three million rupees had also been recovered from the storage facility.
