The need of the era is to rise up as one Sri Lankan nation through ethnic harmony. Multi religious leaders emphasized that this is a catalyst to march forward undeterred in the face of challenges. The religious leaders were addressing a news conference in Colombo.

The Ven. Prof. Kumburugamuwe Vajira Thera said that this is a complex society. Various communities live in the country. There are also persons who profess different faiths. The people should trust and have faith in each other and share their sadness and happiness. He said this is a country which belongs to all. If so everyone should unite to safeguard and develop it. He invited the nation to join hands to work for the country to be rich in peace.

The Ven. Galagama Dhammaransi Thera said that rather than pointing the finger at different groups, individuals and parties, it should be clearly mentioned that as a grave responsibility and duty, there is a right and obligation and of everyone to become stakeholders of sorting out the issue.

Moulavi Dr. Abdul Cader Mashoor pointed out that the Muslims have now become part of the Sinhala community. A country enriched with peace, unity and security should be bequeathed to the children. He said that everyone is clearly aware that some international forces are attempting to create rifts between communities and looking for a reason to interfere in the internal affairs of the country. As such everyone should exercise caution and restraint.
