Not only the town, but also the village is being equally developed and improved. The dividends of the massive development drive are for every citizen. Addressing the Moneragala Development Committee meeting, the President told the participants to show also the development of their areas to the Opposition.


The Moneragala District Development Committee meeting was held at the Moneragala Library Auditorium. It was presided by President Rajapaksa. The meeting took cognizance of the development programmes that are in implementation in the District at present as well the projects that are being proposed for the future.

A special programme has been launched not only to solve the drinking water problems in Moneragala but also in the entire country. The President announced that instructions had been issued to launch water supply schemes giving priority where the chronic kidney disease is rife. The people’s needs should be given due consideration when problems surface in development projects.

The President underscored that injustice should not be caused to the people due to lack of coordination among state institutions. It was revealed at this meeting that the Moneragala District was being improved as a Development Zone.

The President said that it was in 2005 that the people gave him a mandate and as promised in three years that is in 2008 the conflict that scourged the country was ended. It should be mentioned that it was after five years since then that this rapid development was taking place. The responsibility entrusted to them was fulfilled to the letter. Some are now making visits to view development.

The President told the gathering to invite them too to Moneragala and examine them. They had visited the Hambantota Harbour, the International Airport and the Norochcholai Thermal Power Plant. They must be estimating the amount they can obtain by selling. It was both, the Pelwatte and Sevanagala Factories, the resources of the public were sold by them. As a result the people did not receive the profits earned for several years. But the people are now receiving the profits of the factories.

The President said that they will not hesitate to take every possible action to upgrade the lives of the public.

Many Parliamentarians, Provincial Chiefs and Senior State officials as well as people’s representatives of the area joined in this meeting.
